An Offaly councillor thinks the deal involving GPs and pharmacists is wrong.
The cost effectiveness of the new covid vaccine roll-out plan is being questioned.
The Cabinet has approved a €91 million plan that will see GPs and pharmacists administer the jab.
Under the deal, they'll be paid €30 for every patient vaccinated in their own practice or pharmacy.
Doctors who administer the vaccine in a HSE centre will be paid €120 per hour, while pharmacists will receive €70 an hour.
Independent Offaly councillor Ken Smollen feels the cost could be greatly reduced if the government recruited the Defence Force medics and the National Ambulance Service paramedics who operated pop-up vaccination centres last weekend instead:
