Sinn Fein Councillor Aoife Masterson feels it will undermine schools in Tullamore selected for the pilot programme.
There are concerns the pilot enrolment scheme in schools is being undermined by the ‘nearest school’ rule.
A new online pilot system for school admissions is being launched for the 2026-2027 school year, enabling parents in five pilot towns to apply for first-year post-primary places.
Tullamore is one of the towns that was selected, with Coláiste Choilm, Killina Presentation Secondary School, Sacred Heart Secondary School, and Tullamore College all part of the form.
Sinn Fein Councillor Aoife Masterson is urging Minister for Education to immediately remove the rule for schools participating in the Tullamore/Killeigh pilot programme.
