Plans to dredge a part of the navigation channel for the River Shannon in Offaly are being given the green light.
According to the Irish Independent, the works will see the removal of 710 cubic metres of silt and peat deposits at the Victoria Lock in Clonahenoge.
The debris has been carried downstream in winter floods and is being removed to enable navigation on the route.
The plans are being approved subject to eight conditions including the appointment of an ecological officer to monitor the works from an environmental perspective.
