Council Rejects Plans For Three Glamping Pods In The Midlands

Roscommon County Council turned down the planning application.

Plans for glamping pods in the Midlands have been refused by the local authority.

Roscommon County Council is rejecting planning permission for three proposed glamping pods at Carrowphadeen, Lecarrow, near Lough Ree.

Martina Conway of Glasson in Athlone, applied for planning permission for three proposed glamping pods at Carrowphadeen, Lecarrow, near Lough Ree.

Roscommon County Council refused planning permission for the project which also included plans to renovate a derelict cottage and add tourism facilities.

Planners said the development would be inappropriate in an un-serviced rural area, citing concerns over traffic, residential amenity and reliance on private cars.

The council also found the proposed wastewater treatment system did not sufficiently demonstrate compliance with environmental standards protecting Lough Ree.

Ten local submissions opposed the plans, raising concerns about traffic, noise, road safety and the impact on the rural community.
