Councillor Defending Justice Minister's Refusal To Meet Athlone Reps

Councillors are seeking to discuss a lack of a Garda presence in Westmeath.

The lack of Garda presence in a midlands town is an issue for Gardaí, not the Justice Minister.

Fine Gael Councillor John Dolan is defending Helen McEntee's decision to refuse to meet Athlone reps, due to a busy schedule.

He claims it's no good for Gardaí to just drive through the town in a car, and believes they should be walking the streets.

Councillor Dolan says he raised the issue with the Minister but it falls to the Garda Commissioner to resolve it:
