The Galway-Athlone Greenway is set to form part of a EuroVelo cycle route, stretching 5,000 kilometres across Europe.
An online public consultation is currently underway, with the local community being asked to choose between five possible routes for the final link between Athlone and Galway City.
A planning application will be filed in 2023, with the project expected to be completed in 2025.
Project Manager Cian McGuinness says they're hoping attract visitors from across Ireland and Europe:
GREENWAY: It'll complete the cycleway linking Dublin and Galway cities.
