A cyclist in his 60s is in a critical condition in hospital this morning after being struck by a car in Laois.
The incident occurred on the Ballyfin Road in Portlaoise at about 6.40 yesterday evening.
The cyclist, a man in his 60s, sustained serious injuries during the collision, involving a car, yesterday.
He was taken to Beaumont Hospital where his condition is described as critical.
The road remains closed between Woodbrook and Palace Cross with local diversions in place, while Forensic Collision Investigators carry out a technical examination.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
They're also appealing to any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage, and were travelling in the area at the time to make this it available to them.
