Two sites are being considered for the new facility.
The Health Minister says a decision on the site for a new hospice in Offaly will be made shortly.
The 20-bed facility was due to be constructed next to the Regional Hospital Tullamore, but those plans were changed with a view on selecting a site on Arden Lane, or the Wellwood Healthcare Campus.
The €20 million hospice is expected to be the 'main pillar of a proper palliative strategy for the midlands,' according to Health Minister Stephen Donnelly.
