The development could see over 90 students given accommodation.
A decision on new student accommodation in Westmeath is due today.
91 students could be housed in 26 apartments in Bunnavally, Athlone, if the development receives the green light from planning officials.
It would see the demolition of the former 'Genesis Nightclub,' which would allow for the provision of five apartment blocks, ranging from two to three storeys in scale.
The site is located 250 metres from the Technological University of the Shannon, which the report says is suffering with a shortage in student accommodation.
