The sentencing of a man after an €8.4 million drug seizure is a 'silver lining in a cloud of neglect' of Ireland's airport security.
That's the perspective of Mullingar Security and Defence Expert, Declan Power, after 56-year-old Tim Gilchrist, of Mavis Bank, Newrath, Waterford, was jailed for 11 years for flying the cocaine into Abbeyshrule Aerodrome, Longford.
During sentencing, Judge Keenan Johnson raised concerns about "open corridor" airfields around the country and called for "significant upgrading" of security.
