Three midlands projects were selected for the programme earlier this week.
The decision to pass over a midlands town for a government cycling and public transport initiative is being labelled a "disappointment".
On Monday, 35 projects - three of which are in the midlands - were selected for the Pathfinder Programme, which fast-tracks the development of Active Transport projects to three years.
Laois County Council passed on a proposal for Portarlington, which would link the town estates with cycle lanes, and instead opted for a project in Portlaoise, labelled by Councillor Mark Hackett as "inferior".
The Green Party rep thinks the final decision should've been swayed by the strength of the proposal, not the size of the town:
