The midlands man confessed to a series of brutal murders 40 years ago.
Police were met with a "curious and bewildering witness to his own story," when they interviewed a Laois serial killer 40 years ago.
That's according to Robert Mulhern, the author of The Secret Serial Killer: The True Story of Kieran Kelly, speaking ahead of the airing of a new documentary on the Rathdowney man.
Mr. Kelly was arrested in London in 1983 after stealing a wedding ring - during a police interview, he confessed to a series of brutal murders spanning 30 years.
The Nobody Zone: Interview with an Irish Serial Killer is a new documentary which dramatises the interview - the first episode airs tonight at 9.35pm on RTÉ One.
