Domestic Violence Service In Offaly Concerned Over Barriers To Reporting

They say ethnic minorities in particular are at risk of not being aware of services.

Offaly Domestic Violence Support Service is concerned about potential barriers to the reporting of abuse among ethic minorities. 

There's been a marked increase in the number of calls to their centre during the covid-19 lockdown period -- but they also know that problems with the English language and lack of awareness of the service is prevalent in the community. 

ODVSS along with Tusla are running an ethnic minority development project across the midlands to try and combat the stigma.

Development worker with the organisation Anna Heagney says the lack of separation in the current climate is amplifying the problem:
