A €100,000 scoping study for a link road aimed at improving traffic flow in an Offaly town is being undertaken.
The first part of the development - which will link the Tullamore and Banagher roads from Birr - is already underway.
Once complete, it will mean that heavy goods vehicles will no longer have to enter Birr to get from the N52 to the N62.
