SETU and TUS Midlands have received funding for community and government projects.
Two midlands universities have won funding worth just 18 thousand euro.
The money will support researchers in TUS Midlands, and SETU to develop collaborative projects with community organisations and government departments.
Nine and a half thousand euro is being granted to the Technological University of the Shannon for a project that tackles the growing threat of microplastics in rivers and surrounding cities.
While SETU is in line for 8 thousand 200 euro for their work on analysing gender discourses in media coverage of farming and rural affairs.
The funding, which comes to a national total of 683 thousand euro, comes from Research Ireland and will support 59 different projects under its New Foundations programme.
