Electronic Tags Needed To Control Overcrowding Midlands Prisons

The former governor of Portlaoise Prison is making the call.

A former governor of Portlaoise Prison says electronic tags is only one factor to tackle overcrowding in prisons. 

The Government is looking to introduce the scheme towards the end of 2025, with a service provider currently being sought for the devices. 

It's hoped that it would free up space in prisons and reduce overcrowding, including Midlands and Portlaoise Prisons which are currently operating at over capacity.
