Emergency Services Attending Bogfire In Westmeath

The blaze broke out this morning.

Fire crews from Mullingar Fire Station and Kilbeggan Fire Station responded to the incident shortly after 9 o'clock this morning and remain at the scene.

The firefighting operation has been supported by BnM, Executive Helicopters, and Civil Defence, whose drone capability has provided aerial support in monitoring conditions and directing resources.

The fire is currently under control, with crews continuing to work to fully extinguish the affected area and deal with remaining hotspots.

The M6 Motorway is currently closed, with diversions in place.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Westmeath Fire and Rescue Service is thanking all the responding agencies for their assistance and cooperation throughout the incident and thanks members of the public for their patience while emergency operations continue

The Westmeath fire service received 19 calls to bog fires over the weekend.

Meanwhile, BnM says they are aware of the fire and says it originated on adjoining land not owned by them.

The company add they're continuing to liaise closely with emergency services and monitor the situation.
