EPA Highlights Persistent Pollution Issues Nationwide

89 inspections were carried out in the Midlands.

The latest report on environmental standards across the country highlights ongoing local concerns about odour problems and water pollution.

One site in Nurney, Future Pigs Limited, has been named as a priority site for issues with infrastructure and management.

The Environmental Protection Agency carried out over 1,600 inspections at 656 licensed sites across all 26 counties last year - an increase of 28%.

89 of those inspections took place in the Midlands, with 31 in Laois, 30 in Offaly, and 28 in Westmeath.

The EPA says it will continue to maintain a strong on-the-ground presence across communities to target those failing to comply.
