Electric cars in the Midlands are enduring a steady and pronounced decline in sales.
It comes from the latest vehicle registration statistics from The Society of the Irish Motor Industry.
Electric vehicle sales in Offaly are down almost 30% in 2024 with the figure dropping by 28% in Westmeath and 20% in Laois.
Nationally, the picture is no better with only 17,459 new electric cars registered in 2024 - that's a decrease of almost a quarter from 2023.
While the number of new electric vehicles bought last month was 296 - up nearly 50% from the same time last year.
The national market share for this year stands at just 14.4% with Petrol having the biggest market share of 30.3%.
It also remains the most popular engine type, with electric, hybrid and plug in-hybrid accounting for a combined 45% of the market.
The top five bestselling EV car brands in 2024 were Tesla, Volkswagen, Kia, Hyundai and BYD.
