Delays in work permits and housing are among the problems mentioned.
Delays in securing work permits are among the biggest challenges facing Westmeath businesses.
Finance Minister, Jack Chambers, was in Mullingar this week, where local businesses informed him of their priorities ahead of the upcoming Budget.
Housing, a shortage of certain skilled workers, and issues with access to credit from the two main banks, were also included in the list of challenges companies are facing in the town.
Minister Chambers acknowledged the cost of doing business is too high, and says the focus should be on cutting costs rather than on giving grants.
The visit was organised by Minister Chamber's Fianna Fáil colleague, Longford Westmeath TD Robert Troy.
Deputy Troy says "Supporting SMEs is one of my key priorities and, as well as advocating for them ahead of the Budget, I am engaging with the Party about what is needed to see this sector grow and prosper over the coming years"
