An eighty-nine year old man died at his home in Castlepollard yesterday following a house fire which broke out shortly after 1 am.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene and attempted to revive the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
It's believed the fire started around the back of the semi detached cottage property and set off the smoke alarms of the neighbouring house.
