He will be running in the upcoming General Election as an Independent.
Offaly County Councilllor Eddie Fitzpatrick is calling into question the democratic process in Fianna Fáil's selection of candidates.
The party is going forward with both Tony McCormack, who was backed by party membership at a selection convention last month, and Claire Murray, who was added to the ticket last week.
Fianna Fáil say a desire to achieve a geographical and gender balance was behind the decision to select Ms Murray.
Mr. Fitzpatrick, who topped the poll in Edenderry in the recent local elections, says he, Councillor Murray, and Peter Ormond were all interviewed in advance of a second name being added ahead of the general election.
He says he thinks that process was just lip-service:
