Kieran Owens, who attended Mullingar Community College under Longford Westmeath Education and Training Board, was given the award at the ceremony in Thomond Park on Thursday.
Other winners included campaigner Vicky Phelan, who's family accepted the award on her behalf, former education editor of the Irish Independent Katherine Donnelly and Olympian Sarah Lavin.
