She recently lost her seat on the Council in the Local Elections.
A former Green Party Councillor has left the party.
Athlone's Louise Heavin lost her seat on Westmeath County Council as a member of the Greens in the recent Local Elections.
She's announced the decision to run in the General Election in Longford Westmeath, but will be contesting it as an Independent, after informing Party Leader, Roderic O'Gorman, of her decision last week.
Ms. Heavin says she feels being a member of the Greens is partially responsible for her losing her seat on the local authority:
She says she wants to push for solutions to the housing crisis:
In a statement to Midlands 103, a Spokesperson for the Green Party says "Ms. Heavin was a valued member of the party, and they wish her all the best in her future endeavours."
They also say the Green Party intends to run a candidate every constituency and will hold a selection convention in Longford-Westmeath in the coming weeks.
