Four Counties Have Similar Covid-19 Incidence To Offaly When It Was Locked Down

Dublin's 14-day incidence rate is now 114 per 100,000.

Four counties have a similar 14-day Covid-19 incidence rate to Offaly when it was locked down last month.

The Cabinet will sign off on new restrictions to deal with the spread of the virus later.

When the lockdown in the Midlands happened, Kildare had an incidence rate of just over 82  per 100,000, Offaly was on 81 which has now dropped to 60, while Laois was at 70 which has fallen to 47.

The latest figures from the Health Protection Surveillence Centre also show Dublin is now at 114, while Louth sits on just under 92, two weeks ago that was just 14.

The lowest rate of infection across the country is Sligo which has had five cases over the past two weeks.

Meanwhile, the cabinet sub-committee on COVID are meeting to discuss the NPHET advice on further restrictions on Dublin.

It's likely that bars and restaurants currently open will be told they can't serve people indoors - and that it will be outdoor dining or takeaway food only for the next few weeks.

That's in addition to the level three restrictions being brought in.

They include a ban on leaving the county except for work or education.

It's expected the cabinet will meet this afternoon ahead of a tea time announcement of the new restrictions to take effect from midnight.
