The fire broke out at around 6am.
Gardaí are investigating a suspected arson attack in Westmeath.
A shed caught alight at around 6am this morning in the Fardrum area of Athlone.
Around 200-300 bales of hay have been destroyed in the fire.
The scene is currently being preserved for technical examinations.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward and are also appealing to to any persons travelling on the Moate to Athlone Road between 5.30am and 6am who observed any activity which drew their attention to contact them.
Any road users who may have camera footage and were travelling on the Moate to Athlone road between 5.30am and 6am are also asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
