A midlands motorist is among 64 drivers who were caught this morning.
National Slow Down Day is now underway on the country's roads.
Gardai will be out in force until 7 o'clock tomorrow morning, checking for drivers who are speeding.
The number of lives lost on the roads increased last year, to 157 deaths, the highest number recorded since 2016.
So far this year there have been 52 deaths on our roads.
It's estimated 30% of road deaths are a direct result of speeding.
In Westmeath, two motorists have been caught speeding on the M6 at Tyrellspass.
One was clocked at 149kmph while the other was travelling at 138kmph in a 120kmph zone.
In the first 5 hours of National Slow Down Day, GoSafe checked 40,943 vehicles & detected 64 speeding vehicles.
