It is currently law in Ireland to have your dog microchipped.
The Government needs to bring in laws it can enforce surrounding the microchipping and neutering of pets.
Laois SPCA currently receive an annual grant to cover a wide range of needs, however it says more specific funding for neutering is needed.
While it is currently the law to have your dog microchipped, the rules are not being enforced with concerns there are not enough inspectors on the ground.
Dog co-ordinator with the LSPCA, Geraldine Lanigan says even if dogs are microchipped, the information may not be updated:
