A midlands town has been left "heartbroken" after a crash led to the death of a three year old girl.
Rosaleen McDonagh was hit by a car on Cosby Avenue in the Fairgreen area of Portlaoise at about 1.15 yesterday afternoon.
The child was taken to Portlaoise Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The scene has been preserved for a technical examination, and Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
Portlaoise's Monsignor John Byrne says the shocking loss is the latest in a sequence of tragic events:
The road where Rosaleen died has since re-opened, following a technical examination by Gardaí.
