High Water Levels Continue To Threaten Homes Along Shannon

A status yellow rainfall warning remains in place until 8am.

A status yellow rainfall warning remains in place for Laois, Offaly, Wesmeath and 16 other counties until 8 o'clock this morning.

Up to 25 millimetres of rain could fall or more could fall, with high water levels already threatening homes and businesses along the Rivers Shannon and Owenass.

An emergency aqua-dam has been inflated in the Park, Athlone as a preventative measure.

Shannon Harbour in Offaly has also been hit with flooding; Botley Lane in Portarlington has been closed; and water levels are reportedly quite high but under control in Mountmellick along the River Owenass.

Kevin Murray's farm shop in Ballinasloe, Co Galway, has been flooded twice in recent years.
