The current Post mistress is departing after decades in the role.
Residents of an Offaly village may be set for a reprieve ahead of the planned closure of their post office.
An Post are now saying they're prepared to offer Kinnitty and the surrounding area what is known as a Post Point Retailer Services solution.
In this instance, an interested retailer can provide local people with stamps, mail and parcel drop off, bill payment and mobile top up services.
Independent Laois Offaly TD Carol Nolan says she still wants to see the people of Kinnitty provided with a "stand-alone post office in the village."
The current service is expected to shut around mid-October, with customers transferred to the Birr Post Office.
The news comes ahead of a planned public meeting in the village this evening.
