Jury In Trial Of Jozef Puska’s Family Members Starts Deliberations

His two brothers are accused of withholding information.

The jury in the trial of four members of Jozef Puska’s family has begun its deliberations.

His two brothers are accused of withholding information from gardai investigating Ashling Murphy’s murder, while their wives are on trial for assisting an offender.

In statements made to gardai a few days after Ashling Murphy was murdered, Marek and Lubomir Puska are accused of withholding information in order to protect their brother, Jozef Puska, from being apprehended.

In order to find them guilty, the jurors were today told they must be satisfied, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the information in question was of material assistance to the detectives; that they knew, or believed, it was of material assistance; and that disclosure wasn’t made as soon as reasonably practicable.

The judge said it’s up to the jury to decide whether any excuse offered was reasonable; but that the protection of a family member could never be considered as such.

In relation to their wives, Jozefina Grundzova and Viera Gazoiva, the jurors were told they must be satisfied that at the time they burned Jozef Puska’s clothes, they knew, or believed, he was guilty of the offence of murder, or something of a similar nature.

Jury deliberations have finished for the day, and will resume in the morning.
