So says local councillor Denis Leonard following the arrival of 75 asylum seekers to a hotel in the town.

There's been outcry over how the transfer was managed, with no advance notice given to Westmeath County Council or the local community.

Westmeath councillors have agreed to write to the government, stating they want to be informed before more refugees are moved to the county.

Labour's Councillor Leonard says a number of people with a far-right agenda are attempting to hijack local residents' sincere concerns over the lack of facilities in the area:
