Laois Council Seeks Meeting About Reducing Motorway Tolls Over Congestion Concerns

A recent report found over 43,000 vehicles are passing through Abbeyleix every week.

Laois County Council is requesting a meeting with Transport Infrastructure Ireland and toll operators MidLink as they look to address pollution and congestion concerns.

Discussions scheduled between the three parties before the covid-19 pandemic had to be postponed.

There's growing concern among locals in Abbeyleix after a recent report found over 43,000 vehicles are passing through the town each week.

Local Fianna Fáil councillor John Joe Fennelly says reducing tolls would encourage drivers to stay on the motorway:
