Councillors in Laois have been paying tribute to their colleague, who is retiring after 22 years in public life.
Fine Gael's Mary Sweeney attended her last local authority meeting today.
The Ballyroan woman was first elected to Portlaoise Municipal District in 1999.
Mary says it was a huge privilege and a great honour to represent her community for the last 22 years.
When she announced her reitrement in September she commented that without the support of the people of Ballyroan, Abbeyleix, Spink, Ballinakill, Raheen and Portlaoise, she would not have been able to carry out her work for these communities.
She also expressed her sincere gratitude to the Fine Gael branch in Ballyroan, who first proposed her to go forward for election in 1999, the Fine Gael party and its members, her fellow Fine Gael county councillors, past and present, and local TD Charlie Flanagan and his office.
