He's been a Councillor with the party for a decade.
A long-standing Laois Councillor is leaving Sinn Féin.
Portarlington's Aidan Mullins has tendered his resignation from the party, with immediate effect.
He's set to remain as an Independent.
He's been a representative of the party at Council level for over a decade.
Councillor Mullins says he was suspended from the party last week after a complaint in relation to posts he made on social media.
He says that was the straw that broke the camel's back:
Councillor Mullins also raised concerns with the direction Sinn Féin were going in, particularly in relation to its stance on immigration, the Hate Speech Bill and the rejected referendums on Family and Care.
In an interview with Midlands 103, he also claims the party attempted to silence him, in relation to posts he made on social media on immigration:
Discussing his future as a Councillor, Mr. Mullins says he definitely won't be running in the next Local Elections:
A spokesperson for Sinn Féin, in a statement to Midlands 103, has confirmed the party has received a letter of resignation from Councillor Mullins.
It also says 'there have been serious differences on key policy issues and values between the party and Mr Mullins for some time.'
