Those involved in local heritage have been crying out for a dedicated museum.
Laois County Council is committed to developing a county museum.
The local authority says it will work with all stakeholders, including the Laois Heritage Society, to bring about such an amenity, under the County Development Plan.
The current courthouse building on Main Street in Portlaoise is mooted as a possible location by a couple of councillors.
