It was announced earlier Portlaoise Leisure Centre is going into liquidation.
Laois County Council says it's committed to keeping Portlaoise Leisure Centre open to the public.
The company is going into liquidation, due the financial pressure from the covid-19 crisis, and 30 staff are being laid off.
The Council - which the centre has operated under since 2012 - says it's anxious to ensure the future viability of the leisure complex.
It's announced it will immediately arrange for refurbishment works to enhance the building and site, and to make sure it will be ready for use as soon as it's safe to do so.
It will also ensure the availability of pitches, the skate park and the playground in the short term.
