Laois Gardai is issuing a warning against noise caused by excessive noise from car engines.
Laois Road Policing Unit says they have carrying out decibel tests with their new equipment on Saturday in Portlaoise.
It comes after they've noted a small minority of drivers are revving through housing estates to 'crackle and pop for attention' which wakes up people.
They're reminding the public that any noise picked up over 99 decibels will lead to a fine, 2 penalty points and that their vehicle may be seized.
