The healthcare watchdog inspected the facility on April 8th.

Insufficient staffing, poor record keeping, and failures in governance and management have been highlighted after a HIQA inspection of a Laois nursing home.

The Droimnín Nursing Home in Stradbally has been deemed non-compliant in eight out of the nine areas assessed by the healthcare watchdog after an unannounced visit earlier this year.

Residents gave mixed feedback about their lived experience in the centre.

While many residents complimented the staff as kind and caring individuals, concerns were raised about the availability of staff and the timeliness of support with their care needs.

Several residents expressed dissatisfaction with the provision of meaningful activities and the level of attentiveness from staff, which they attributed to staff being busy.

The inspection found that the registered provider had not fully implemented a compliance plan submitted following the previous inspection.

The latest visit found a poorly defined organisational structure, with unclear lines of authority and accountability, continued to have a negative impact on the the effective oversight of the service provided to residents.

The provider had failed to ensure that there were sufficient staffing levels in the centre to meet the assessed needs of the residents.

Staff supervision arrangements were not appropriate to protect and promote the care and welfare of residents.

A review of the record management systems in the centre found that records were not managed in line with regulatory requirements.

There were also failures around regulations for residents' care plans, general healthcare and residents' rights around activities and quality of life.

While a review of the complaint management system found that complaints were not recorded and managed in line with the centre's own policy and the requirements of the regulation.
