The owner of Midland Hardware in Rathdowney David Ryan says it will increase their busy customer base.
A Laois shop owner feels over the shop grants for businesses will help to tackle dereliction in his hometown.
David Ryan owns Midland Hardware in the town which employs 30 locals.
It comes as councillor for the area Fine Gael rep John King says the council is considering buying derelict town centre properties to convert to residential properties.
