Homes flooded in Athlone last night after a pump failed.
Levels on the River Shannon are continuing to rise.
Homes in Athlone were also flooded last night after a pump failed in the Deer Park area.
A number of smaller temporary pumps were installed until it was back up and running.
OPW Minister Kevin 'Boxer' Moran says the water is rising in Athlone but the multi-agency response is working around the clock to tackle the issue:
Hundreds of acres are under water and some homes and businesses have been damaged in the midlands.
