The proposal would have seen the construction of over 200 apartments.
The developer of a massive residential and commercial proposal in Offaly says the refusal of the project is amusing and disappointing.
Offaly County Council turned down plans for 204 apartments and 20 commercial and retail units on lands between Patrick Street and Kilbride Street in Tullamore.
The proposals were refused on a number of grounds, which the local authority say relate to endangering the public due to traffic issues, concerns with the 13-storey scale of the development and access to fire services.
Cayenne Holdings, the developer behind the proposed project, says it's invested considerably to suggest what the future Tullamore town centre might look like.
It says it's currently reviewing its options and considering the local authority's perspective before deciding the next steps.
In a statement to Midlands 103, the developer is also thanking local businesses and the community for the support they've shown throughout the process.
