The search is on for the owners of the old showgrounds in Athlone.
Fianna Fáil councillor Aengus O'Rourke is proposing turning the land - previously used for the Athlone Agricultural Show - into a public park.
He says Monsignor John McCarthy gifted the land to the Show Committee seventy years ago, but many of its members have since passed away and the ownership isn't clear.
With flood defences being built, Councillor O'Rourke says it would be a prime location for a public amenity:
