Construction started on St. Francis' special school two years ago.
It's hoped a long-awaited new building for a Laois school will be finalised early next year.
The students and staff of St. Francis' special school in Portlaoise were due to move to a new site on the Borris Road last Easter, as their current premises has been deemed inadequate for their needs.
However, an internal row between the contractor and the Department of Education over a separate project in Maynooth has put a halt to construction.
Chair of the board of management, Father Paddy Byrne says the delays are a serious blow to the community but is optimistic the school can be open in January:
