Longford/Westmeath Candidate Says Postal Network Is Essential For Rural Ireland

He says An Post needs more support.

A Longford/Westmeath general election candidate believes maintaining the postal network is essential for the development of rural Ireland.

Fine Gael's Micheál Carrigy wants to re-introduce a bill to the Dáil, legislating for a Public Service Obligation to help alleviate the pressure on the service. 

The Irish Postmasters' Union yesterday warned of a collapse within two years, if nothing is done once a government is formed.
