Eugen Constantin from 25 Church Street, Portlaoise will appear before the court again on July 27th.
A 72-year-old man accused of murdering his wife appeared at Portlaoise District Court earlier this morning by video link from the medical wing of Cloverhill Remand Prison.
Eugen Constantin from 25 Church Street, Portlaoise is charged with the murder of his wife Adina Raluca Constantin at their address on Sunday 5 July.
When his case was called the prison service advised the court clerk that the case would be conducted from the medical wing of the prison.
At the first hearing into the case his solicitor said that his client is being treated for cancer and other medical conditions and asked that his client obtains an immediate medical assessment.
When the case resumed on Monday Judge Andrew Cody informed the defendant that the district court was unable to grant him bail as the High Court would decide on that matter on a murder charge.
Barrister Andrew Dunne instructed by Philip Meagher solicitor, said that the bail application was being made in the High Court tomorrow.
Judge Cody remanded Mr Constantin in custody to the 27 July sitting of the court, which will be conducted by video link, and assigned a Romanian interpreter to the case.
