Sameer Syed was due to go on trial for the murder of his wife and two children.
The solicitor for an inmate who was found dead in the Midlands Prison says he has "significant concerns about how a high profile prisoner could die in custody."
Roscommon solicitor Phelim O'Neill has been speaking following the discovery of Sameer Syed's body in his cell yesterday afternoon.
The 37 year old was due to stand trial next Wednesday charged with the murder of his 37-year-old wife, 11-year-old daughter and six-year-old son at their home in South Dublin in October 2020.
Gardaí discovered their bodies after residents became concerned when the family hadn't been seen for several days.
The family had recently moved to Ireland from India.
In a statement, the Irish Prison Service said it could confirm "the death of a prisoner in the Midlands Prison".
There are no details on the circumstances surrounding his death.
The IPS says all deaths in custody are investigated by the service, the Inspector of Prisons and gardaí.
