The incident occurred in Athlone on Sunday.
A man has been hospitalised after an alleged assault in Westmeath.
The incident took place in Athlone on Sunday evening shortly before 7pm.
The man, aged in his 20s was brought to Portiuncula Hospital for treatment to his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.
Gardaí say their investigations are continuing.
It's believed the man is Palestinian fleeing the conflict in Gaza, and staying at the controversial accommodation centre in Lissywollen.
