The incident took place last August in the Mall in Longford.
A man responsible for viciously beating a woman, and threatening to rape her, has been jailed for three years and three months.
35 year old Michal Godla, of Annaly Court, Longford Town, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm.
The incident took place in a public park known as the Mall in Longford on August 7, in 2023.
Yesterday, a court heard how Godla unleashed a "sustained, violent and vicious attack" on Sharon Harrison as she walked in the park at around 1am.
Ms Harrison said she "witnessed evil" in the eyes of her attacker.
During the beating, she told him: "I am a woman, a mother. You wouldn’t do this to your own mother."
She said he told her he wanted to rape her.
Prosecution barrister Shane Geraghty described how his client escaped by agreeing to go with her attacker, as long as she was allowed to find her glasses.
At this point she "ran for her life", and called her husband.
Ms Harrison was later brought to Mullingar’s Midland Regional Hospital where she was treated for "multiple bruises" as well as injuries to her head, face, chest and abdominal area.
Mr Godla has written a letter of apology and said he was willing to give his victim two thousand euro - an offer which the court heard she had "no interest" in accepting.
